Study: Second Life Design, 2010

Industrial

Imagine if our products are designed for more than one life, our wasteyards can have lesser rate of input. Take the plastic bottle for instance, although every bottle is processed through design, it is only intended for a monotonous use - one use and one life. These hard-to-degrade plastic bottles are physically capable for alternative uses such as wall partitions, domestic furnatures, toys etc. The study shows, while reduce is difficult to enforce and recycle is hard to be efficient, reuse is contrarily cheap and effective. Most importantly, a reusable product can be a design responsibility.

The applicable sample of the study of Second Life Design is applied to an emergency relieve project. Second Life water bottles can be dispatched for consumptions and then re-used to build furnitures and partition walls.
