The Twisted Parallel Installation, 2007
Unionville High School, Markham; Art
The Twisted Parallel Installation took the mundane set of atrium staircase from Unionville High School and transformed it into an identifiable place of gathering. This simple enlarge geometry gave life and colour to the entry lobby of the school.
Is this a net or a connector? Is this planar or volumetric? This installation provokes various polar dichotomies - even the colours are in opposites.
Initially, this project was commissioned as a temporary piece. Since it was well received, there were many efforts to preserve and make this installation permanent. Although it was eventually demolished - and in the most interesting of ways (see video below) - the project took center piece at the annual art show of the school.
